I am Laurel Pollard of Four Geese Designs. I am pleased to share that our family has updated and launched Epic Adventures Ornament collection for 2026!
The Story
Inspiration
For over 20 years, our family has traveled extensively across the United States and Puerto Rico.
We have collected fantastic, unique Christmas ornaments, which are cherished mementos we reflect upon as we Deck the Halls every year.
In 2023, I had a strong belief that the distinctive design of our town's "Welcome to Kennebunkport" sign needed to be created as an ornament and shared with others. As we look back on a three-year design/build/distribution timeline, I grateful my family believed it, too!
The Design Process
Borrowing Walt Disney's "multiplane" design aesthetic, I reacquainted myself with my design software and got to work. By the Spring 2023, I was able to introduce my first design by creating and organizing over 200 layers and sublayers in Adobe Illustrator to optimize both depth and dimension from a flat image. Pro tip: organization is key!
Thrilled with the original design, and support from my family, I dedicated my time over the next few months to perfect the use of our xTool P2 CO2 laser to maximize quality and increase production.
With the completion of the production process, the design work continued. My family and I traveled to photograph additional local landmarks and I built the first, full collection.
Market Analysis
Through 2023 and 2024, we were able to share these initial product designs at our Beach and Field Farmstand, as well as local craft fairs, while we developed our distinctive packaging and continued process improvements.
The response was extremely encouraging - people were excited to hear about the process of how our family worked together to develop this work. Plenty of stories to tell!
The level of sales at the local markets proved the designs were unique and price points were attractive.
Product Validation
With that feedback, we were confident our product would be well received in a broader retail environment. To support our prospective retailers, I designed and produced many iterations of our unique packaging, which was inspired by the bespoke bridal industry.
Working on the in-store display, we were determined to maximize valuable retail square footage by going vertical and featuring our distinction of being "Handmade in Kennebunkport," which Chris brought to life.
With over 20 years experience as a former gift and home decor retailer, paired with my husband's corporate sales training, we developed attractive terms of sales for qualified businesses in our Southern Maine region:
- No minimum orders
- Extended payment terms for pre-season
- Just-in-time delivery to accommodate hyper, on-season sales demand
- Free in-store displays
Retail Launch
Early 2025, we partnered with our first commercial account, The Copper Candle, in Dock Square, Kennebunkport.
We worked hand-in-hand with Bruce Jones, Manger, to coordinate sales and deliveries, and adjust administrative workflows that would benefit his team. He encouraged us to introduce a Portland Headlight design - which was a huge hit.
By collaborating with our partners and fulfilling demand for custom work, and dedicating more time to direct sales and personal appearances, Four Geese Designs' 2025 sales exceeded expectations by 400%.
Invitation
Fulfillment has already begun in 2026. We're excited to expand the collection, collaborate with more inspiring businesses, and continue to share the Four Geese Designs story - creating lasting memories with our family and community.
